This scholarship was established in 2020 by Michelle Kompare to honor her father, Frank Kompare. Frank worked as a plumber for over 45 years. He joined the Plumbers Local Union #16 in 1970 as an apprentice. After completing his training and becoming a Journeyman Plumber, Frank worked out of the Union Hall until 1987. In May of that year, he was hired as a plumber in the Facilities department at Metropolitan Community College (MCC). He remained at MCC until his retirement in 2015, after 28 years of dedicated service. Returning part-time in 2018, he continues to serve the MCC community.
Michelle describes her dad as one who believes in the importance of education and hard work. This scholarship is being established in her father’s name to promote those values. This scholarship will be available to students in the plumbing program who wish to pursue a career in the plumbing industry.
The scholarship is intended to fund tuition, books, fees and any equipment needed for the plumbing program.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Open to all MCC students
- Financial need may be considered but is not required
- Enrolled full- or part-time students
Scholarships are usually offered during the spring and fall quarters. Scholarship availability varies depending on donor giving.
