The Patricia "Big Mama" Barron Culinary Scholarship was established in 2018 to honor the late Patricia “Big Mama” Barron.
Patricia “Big Mama” Barron is known for her family-owned and -operated restaurant, Big Mama’s Kitchen. Patricia acquired her passion for cooking as a child in the kitchen of her beloved Grandmother Lillie. Big Mama’s Kitchen catering service originated over fifty years ago as a part-time, home-based business operating out of Big Mama’s own home kitchen. But the demand for Big Mama’s tasty brand of cooking grew beyond the confines of that room, and in December of 2007 Big Mama’s Kitchen opened a full-service restaurant and banquet facility.
The Patricia “Big Mama” Barron Culinary Scholarship will support an MCC culinary student. Students in the 180 Re-entry Assistance Program (180 RAP) are preferred candidates.
