Dr. Mary Wise began her career at Metropolitan Community College as a developmental skills specialist. Her talent was quickly recognized and, within six months, she was appointed to a division chair position in Business and Humanities. Throughout her career, Dr. Wise was often chosen to serve in an interim capacity during a college reorganization or a recruitment for an administrative vacancy. Usually, these assignments were in addition to whatever her primary assignment was at the time. Thus, she has worn multiple hats at the institution, sometimes serving two or three areas at the same time; for example, during one stint, she served as division chair (Humanities), campus services manager and assistant to the vice president of Educational Services.
Most importantly, Dr. Wise was at the forefront in the development of online learning at MCC, leading innovative faculty in the creation of multiple learning opportunities for thousands of students. Her personal and professional goal has always been to provide a quality education for students and to teach them how to learn and moved forward on their own. Her reward has been watching students find success in their career paths.
Dr. Wise is respected and admired by all those who have had the privilege of working with her. The Dr. Mary Wise Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 as a way to honor her and her legacy. The scholarship is intended to support students pursuing an associate degree or certificate at MCC and may be used for tuition, fees and books.
