Maria Fernandez established this scholarship in 2020 to honor her husband John Fernandez, MD who passed away in 2005. John was passionate about education and shared a love of food with his wife, who owned the Indian Oven restaurant in Omaha’s Old Market District until retiring in 2013. This scholarship is to support students in MCC's adult basic education program, particularly English Language Learners, pursue their educational goals. The scholarship will support students in the culinary arts management or medical reception certificate or credit programs that lead directly from Adult Education to sustainable employment.
This renewable scholarship is intended to fund tuition, fees, books and required materials for their program like tools and uniforms.
Scholarship Criteria:
- MCC Adult Basic Education Students particularly English Language Learners
- Full- or part-time students
- Financial need is required, as determined by MCC Financial Aid through completion of FAFSA
Scholarships are usually offered during the spring and fall quarters. Scholarship availability varies depending on donor giving.
