Supporting Veterans in Manufacturing

Thousands of service men and women return home each year, with tremendous technical training, experience and work ethic – precisely the skill set needed for advanced manufacturing and automotive services careers. Recognizing the opportunity to match this strong student population with high-demand careers, MCC will incorporate renovated space within the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) to serve as a center for our military and veteran students. Approximately 10% of people living in the Omaha metro area are veterans, according to the U.S. Census.

MCC has dedicated programs to support veterans in identifying career paths that match their interests and skills, and provide opportunities for sustainable income. The CAM will allow us to enhance these services significantly. Services will include our Veterans Upward Bound program (college success preparation), our college-wide Military and Veterans Services (financial aid and advising), a comfortable convening and study spot with reduced distractions and enhanced career services. In addition, MCC is assessing earn-and-learn training models to pair paid jobs with classroom instruction to increase opportunities for real, meaningful connections between veterans and industry partners in manufacturing, automotive services, and other fields.
