Metropolitan Community College occupies nearly 10,000 square-feet of space on the third floor of the Highlander Accelerator building. We are re-imaging and re-invigorating community education, business training programs, youth programs and learning in retirement to empower all constituents to learn in today’s increasingly digital world. In the fall of 2019, MCC debuted the permanent exhibit Science on a Sphere at MCC North Express. The installation of the Science on a Sphere exhibit is the first permanent exhibit of its kind in Nebraska and features breathtaking visualizations of earth and space.
In collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, MCC has developed a multitude of informative and engaging SOS programs that appeal to community and school audiences. The visually stunning display engages students by showing datasets, which seem like educational “movies” starring science textbook topics. Science on a Sphere comes preloaded with over 500 datasets ranging in length and in complexity across dozens of topics. MCC staff is able to customize programs to meet teacher and educational needs and we are in the process of developing and sharing new SOS courses on topics of global and local importance.
MCC North Express currently serves students ages three and up, and offers programming in many areas. A strength of MCC North Express lies in robust collaboration with community partners allowing the delivery of unique, innovative STEM programming. We pride ourselves on the flexibility of our physical space and the flexibility of our programming lineups. Science on a Sphere is the perfect educational classroom tool that allows for STEM programming expansion while maintaining our flexibility.
