The Walter Scott Jr. Welding Scholarship has been established by Valmont Industries, Inc. in honor of the many dedicated years Scott has served on the Valmont Board of Directors.

Walter Scott Jr. has dedicated many years of his life to improving and redefining the city of Omaha and all it has to offer. His career was spent with Kiewit, working on construction projects across the country in his early days, eventually moving up to District Manager of company operations in the Great Lakes region in 1961. He returned to Omaha three years later, becoming Vice President and a member of the board of directors. In 1965, he was named Executive Vice President, then Chairman and CEO in 1979. He stepped down from that position in 1998, but continues to drive philanthropic efforts through the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation. He has served as a board member of many other Omaha-based companies, including Berkshire Hathaway, ConAgra Brands, and Valmont Industries.

Valmont is a leading producer and distributor of products and services for the infrastructure and agricultural markets. Valmont began in 1946 when founder, Robert B. Daugherty, combined his $5,000 savings with a wholehearted belief that business could and should be done better. From those modest beginnings, the company grew into a global leader of engineered products and services for infrastructure, and water-conserving irrigation equipment and solutions for agriculture. From lighting and traffic structures to guide the way, to communication towers that keep people connected, to utility structures that power homes and businesses, to irrigation equipment and technology that help grow the world’s food, we are committed to Conserving Resources. Improving Life®.
