About NASM Certified Personal Trainer

This program is designed for individuals who would like to the enter the high-demand career field of fitness, health, and wellness. National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) is a global leader in certification for fitness professionals with over 1.3 million professionals trained worldwide. Upon successful completion of this program, participants take the NCCA-accredited NASM-CPT certification exam.

This program provides participants with the most current evidence, strategies, and training techniques designed to equip fitness professionals with the necessary skills to optimize human potential and performance. Topics include standards and codes of conduct; exercise psychology and behavioral coaching techniques; concepts and structures of anatomy and physiology, human movement, exercise metabolism, and nutrition; client fitness assessment; exercise techniques for clients; and design exercise programs.

CPR/AED requirement: Participants have the option to register for the American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid, CPR and First Aid certification for additional fee. Candidates are required to be CPR/AED certified before the NASM-CPT exam.

Course Outline

The NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) program contains 23 content areas delivered in blend of online activities and live instruction from a Master NASM Instructor. MCC’s program is delivered in an accelerated format over 4 weeks.

Audience

Individuals who currently work or aspire to work in fitness, athletic, and wellness positions in work setting such as health clubs, gyms, recreation centers, and healthcare providers.

Physical Standards:

Metropolitan Community College complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act and its amendments. In order for students to be successful in the NASM Certified Personal Trainer, they must be able to perform the following physical standards:

Ability to use senses
  • Visual acuity to identify, read, and understand directions on exercise equipment and other documents required in fitness instruction.
  • Ability to see objects more than a few feet away, and distinguish distance, colors, objects, and persons.
  • Ability to hear sounds and warning signals, which could lead to an emergency requiring some type of proactive or reactive response.
  • Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand
Physical Ability
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Ability to use muscles for extended periods.
  • Ability to hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • Ability to lift, move, carry, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to bend and twist body, including crouching, kneeling, or reaching.
  • Ability to use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble small objects.
Work Environment
  • May work in noisy environments
