Work Study

Federal Work Study (FWS)

The Federal Work Study program provides part-time employment for students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per quarter and in Good Standing for Financial Aid Satisfactory Progress to participate in the FWS program.

Positions are located both on and off campus. A number of reading and math tutoring positions, off-campus and non-profit community service jobs are available. Interested students must complete a Metropolitan Community College Work Study Application located in the Financial Aid Forms Bank in Financial Aid Self-Service.

ON-CAMPUS Federal Work Study POSITIONS

Fort Omaha Campus, South Omaha Campus, Elkhorn Valley Campus (currently accepting applications)

Demonstrate a professional image as Federal Work Study Assistant (FWS Assistant) with various MCC Offices. The FWS Assistant must feel a strong commitment to the MCC campus community and always be willing to share their enthusiasm and pride with those around them. FWS Assistant will demonstrate leadership abilities while providing guidance, coaching, and in class support to assigned First Year Experience (FYE) Students throughout the academic year. Must have an interest in working with students new to the college environment, or that have difficulties adjusting to a college setting and be able to refer them to college resources, including FYE advising from their assigned Success Navigator, counseling, and learning support services.

Fort Omaha Campus Contact Center (Currently Accepting Applications)

Position will require strong customer service and data entry skills for making outbound calls from the MCC Contact Center to prospective students.

  • Shift 1 - Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m and Saturday, 8 a.m. - noon (optional).
  • Shift 2 - Monday - Thursday, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. - noon (optional).

Fort Omaha Campus Continuing Education Office (filled)

Assist with general office duties and both College for Kids/College for Teens classroom and class preparation.

Fort Omaha Campus Enrollment Services Office of Recruitment (filled)

Position includes assisting with recruitment efforts, data entry, stuffing envelopes, creating informational packets, representing MCC at events and making occasional outbound calls from the MCC Contact Center.

Fort Omaha Campus International/Intercultural Education Office - clerical (filled)

Support Services for International/Intercultural Education Office includes clerical duties such as preparing bulk mailings of posters and brochures, data entry, filing and photocopying. Travel to other campuses for special events and activities as outlined by the department; we prefer that you have a valid driver's license and cell phone. (filled)

Typical work week: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., but may require occasional hours outside of this timeframe; 20 hours per week.

Fort Omaha International Student Services clerical 12-3pm (Filled)

Clerical duties and provide customer service to prospective and current F-1 students. The assistant will answer applicants and students' basic questions related to applying to MCC, registering for classes, filling out forms, and maintaining F-1 status. Additional duties-data entry, upload documents, assist with orientation and presentations, prepare files and initial review of applications.

Fort Omaha Campus Financial Aid Office (Filled)

Clerical position that includes answer phones and outreach to students. General office work support for staff to include electronic scanning of confidential documents, keyboarding, faxing, copying, and preparing program packets, folders,and mailings.

Fort Omaha Campus Institutional Effectiveness & Engagement (filled)

ePantry position-monitoring food inventory, stocking shelves ensuring cleanliness of the pantry prep area. Keeping records of supplies, packing food orders for students, and ensuring packed food is ready on tables for pick up for delivery personnel by designated timeframe.

Clerical duties-updating spreadsheet, contacting students at various campus locations, making copies, and updating forms as needed.

Fort Omaha Campus Prototype Design Lab (currently accepting applications)

MCC's Prototype Design Lab on the Fort Omaha Campus is equipped with digital tools for 3-D design and production. MCC FWS students working in this area will become skilled in using Prototype designs, production tools and material, supporting first-generation college students and area high school students who are at risk or underrepresented in college enrollments, and encouraging STEM educational and career pathways.

Fort Omaha Campus Re-Entry Program (currently accepting applications)

Clerical position to include answer phones, greet walk-in traffic, assist program participants, prepare mailings, sort incoming mail, copy program materials, filing and room setup for various events held in the building.

Fort Omaha Campus Student Affairs Office (Open)

The Science Lab Student Aide will assist the Science Lab Coordinator and Lab Assistant with daily duties including set up and cleanup of all labs, preparing materials for labs, washing and putting away glassware and providing assistance with special projects.

The HVAC/R Lab Technician assist instructors and lab technicians in cleaning and organizing the mechanical systems lab and assist in maintenance of HVAC/R equipment.

Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha's Botanical Center  (Accepting applications )

Internships at Lauritzen Gardens offer exciting opportunities for students to be closely involved with the challenges and rewards of working in a young public garden with a fast-paced atmosphere.
Lauritzen Gardens’ Summer Adventure Camp interns are needed to teach groups of week-long campers between 5-12 years of age. Camp topics include nature-based themes that will allow staff and campers to enjoy an exciting indoor and outdoor camp experience. Education Interns will assist with education programming at the garden including school tours, youth enrichment programs, festivals, special events and garden interpretation. Interns must possess enthusiasm, flexibility, love of the outdoors and the interest in working with children.

Life Care Homeless Shelter (currently accepting applications)

The mission at this Fremont area program is to help all residents get on a path to self-sufficiency and independence by searching daily for a job. MCC FWS students will assist clients with receiving direct service through prevention, shelter, case management, health care assistance, professional counseling, life skills education, aftercare and transitional housing.

Family Housing Advisory Services (currently accepting applications)

MCC FWS students serving at Family Housing Advisory Services will assist in providing financial education for a population of young people transitioning out of the foster care system with very low-income and with minimal life-skills. Student must be working on Human Services degree.

Opportunity Passport position:
The services within the Opportunity Passport program focus on assisting participants with financial education, as well as housing, transportation and other needs that young people transitioning out of foster care may have. FWS students will conduct outreach initiatives and interact with youth by assisting in one-on-one financial coaching, classroom/workshops, coordinating the financial educational enrollment and training opportunities and in working alongside the assistant program director with both the youth and adult financial management programs.

Homeownership Assistant position:

Demonstrate a professional image as Federal Work Study Intake Services Assistant (FWS Assistant) with Family Housing Advisory Services. FWS Assistant must have good customer service and communication skills to inform clients whether assistance will be received. FWS students will assist with looking up potential purchases by clients, filing paperwork, creating a list of contact information for clients wanting 1-1 assistance and assist with reviewing client files for follow up needs.

Tenant Services Assistant position:

Demonstrate a professional image as Federal Work Study Tenant Services Assistant (FWS Assistant) with Family Housing Advisory Services. FWS Assistant must have good customer service and communication skills to inform clients whether assistance will be received. FWS students will assist with income intake process to determine if clients qualify for assistance, returning calls to clients to inform if they will receive assistance and maintaining the updating of client files.

Nebraska Children and Families Foundation/Project Everlast (Currently Accepting applications)

MCC work study students serving with Project Everlast will assist with developing resources and programming for young adults to connect them to community supports and resources. Students will help to recruit new members through community outreach and social media.

Assisting Life Enrichment Director with day-to-day activities and scheduling, attending and assisting with facilitation of education for program participants and assisting with special events.

OMAHA CHILDREN'S MUSEUM (CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS)

Paid Internship/Work Study
Work with the education department to develop and present in-house programming, classroom outreaches, special events and educational film production. Knowledge of early childhood education learning strategies, strong communication skills, bilingual is a plus. Must have the willingness to have fun in presentations with the audiences.
