This memorial scholarship was created in 2005 by Robert Bohn in memory of Murray Lamar Bohn (M.L. "Buck" Bohn). This scholarship is to assist students who have declared a major in either Construction Technology or Industrial and Commercial Trades. Students may use this scholarship for tuition, fees and books.
Born in 1910 in a farming community in southern Utah, Murray Lamar "Buck" Bohn learned early the lessons of hard work and self-sufficiency. Experiencing much of what rural western America had to offer in the 1900s, Buck was forced to forego a formal education in favor of technical training found on the job. As a result of many state and federal work projects of the time, Buck pursued a career in construction, specifically in the plumbing and pipefitting trades.
Buck staunchly supported the heavy construction projects of the 1930s and 1940s, which included the Hoover Dam and the Central Valley water projects in California. Furthermore, Buck became an active member and supporter of the union movement. After a varied career in the construction industry, Buck moved into active management of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 228, in Redding, CA until his death in 1985.
