About OSHA Forklift Operator Training

Forklifts are an essential tool used on all kinds of work sites. Employers need workers with the proper forklift training to operate these machines, and to provide their business with the most efficient, productive, and safety-oriented workplace as possible. This 4-hour course is an OSHA forklift training course covering the standards required for any employee who operates a powered industrial truck.
 
Participants will be required to operator a forklift under the supervision of a trainer operator. Participants must maneuver the forklift through an obstacle course including performance of basic lift movements.
 
Certificate of Completion: This course meets the OSHA classroom training requirements. Upon successful demonstration of OSHA safety and compliance standards, participants receive a certificate of completion from MCC. All instructors are certified OSHA Forklift Operator Trainers.

Audience

Individuals who currently work or aspire to work as a forklift operator or work in a warehouse, supply chain, manufacturing, construction or similar work environment

Physical Standards:

Metropolitan Community College complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act and its amendments. If a prospective student who is otherwise qualified requires a reasonable accommodation, he/she should contact the Disability Support Services office at Metropolitan Community College (MCC).
 
In order for students to be successful in the OSHA Forklift Operator Training, they must be able to perform the following physical standards:
 
General Standard Specific Example
Ability to use senses
  • Visual acuity to identify, read, and understand directions on equipment and other documents required in forklift operation, such as safety and operator procedures.
  • Ability to see at a distance, and distinguish distance, colors, objects, and persons.
  • Ability to hear sounds and warning signals, which could lead to an emergency requiring some type of proactive or reactive response.
  • Ability to detect and tolerate smells that may unpleasant or indicate a possible danger.
Physical Ability
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Ability Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to lift, move, carry, push, and pull at least 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend and twist body, including crouching, kneeling, or reaching.
  • Must be able to extend neck to look up at far distances
Work Environment
  • May work in slippery or wet conditions
  • May work in daylight, sunlight, skylight, or overhead fluorescent light
