MCC receives grant from National Endowment for the Arts

OMAHA, Neb. — Metropolitan Community College has received a $10,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant will support the Great Plains Theatre Conference 2019 performances of PlayFest.

The NEA funding will support the festival of three community based plays with emphasis on a play titled “EPIC”, by Omaha playwright Ellen Struve. “EPIC” will explore South Omaha’s diverse artistic community through a time bending journey of the ancient Mayan stories of the Popol Vuh. The play was developed in collaboration with the Mayan immigrant population in partnership with Comunidad Maya Pixan Ixim, the Abstract Mindz artist collective and the South Omaha Mural Project.

PlayFest will take place May 26-June 1, 2019. All performance are free and open to the public. For more performance dates, locations and times please visit gptcplays.com/playfest.
